It started with Izzy—a green ribbon and butterflies to celebrate a successful transplant and transformation for the 17-year-old Gibbon girl. A year later, a new ribbon and butterflies— this time blue—for Abby, a tiny hero who gave two other children the gift of life.
It’s called Legacy on the Bricks, a mural that represents the life-changing impact of organ and tissue donation for both recipients and donor families.
Izzy’s Transplant Journey
Izzy Warrington was two-and-a half years old when she was diagnosed with kidney disease. Over the next 13 years, Izzy’s condition continued to progress. She missed not only school, but the opportunity to be a kid as well.
With little success, Izzy’s family pursued every opportunity to treat her condition and give her a normal life. By the time she was 15, Izzy’s kidneys failed, and she underwent surgery to remove them. For almost two years, Izzy relied on dialysis to keep her alive, complications of her condition preventing her from receiving a living donation from her mom, Jamie.

Finally, in November 2023, Izzy received a transplant as part of a living donation exchange in which Jamie donated to another recipient and Izzy received a kidney from another living donor.
Now, nearly 20, Izzy is experiencing a much different life, enjoying hobbies like baking, shopping and crafting. She got her driver’s license, has a job, and is in her first year of college.
In 2024, Jamie developed the concept for the mural to commemorate Izzy and the Warrington’s transplant journey, and to raise awareness for organ donation.
“Izzy’s strength is aspirational,” said Jamie. “Not only was Izzy affected, but our entire family; her siblings also had to make sacrifices. This mural held deep meaning for our whole family. It marked a powerful turning point in all our lives.”
Today, the mural also represents a turning point for another Kearney-area family and the lives saved by their baby girl.
Abby’s Gift of Life
In June, Abigail “Abby” Findley died at just three months old.
The red-headed, blue-eyed baby was the third child of Nathan and Brittany Findley. Abby was calm and sweet, a good sleeper who was just beginning to giggle. Her parents say her smile lit up a room.

When approached about the opportunity for organ donation, Nathan and Brittany wanted to spare other families the grief of losing a child. Abby’s liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines saved a one-year-old boy. A four-month-old girl received her heart.
“Knowing my daughter is living on in other children is indescribable,” said Brittany. “I couldn’t be more proud of her and her accomplishments in her short time on earth. I’m so glad she could save the lives of others and truly make a difference…She gave other kids a second chance, which is what every kid deserves.”
In July, Izzy’s mural caught Nathan’s eye.
“I was blown away,” he said. “Once I saw it, I immediately wanted to get it done for Abby.”
Nathan spoke with local officials and artists from Impact Art to bring Abby’s story to life. Without telling Brittany, he secured community support and funding. The mural was completed in a few short weeks, connecting Izzy’s story to Abby’s, and demonstrating the power of human kindness.
On a clear September afternoon, Nathan led Brittany blind-folded to downtown Kearney and revealed the mural.
“I was in shock,” said Brittany. “Then once I processed it, I was in awe and disbelief. It is the perfect tribute to her. It is stunning, and he [Nathan] couldn’t have done a better job on it. It’s an amazing way to spread awareness and keep Abby’s name out there and alive.”
The mural is located at 16 W 21 St. on the west side of Legacy on the Bricks event venue in downtown Kearney, Nebraska. The owners, Cody & Bailey Bolte, generously gifted the wall space of their business to house the mural.
