Celebrated each April, National Donate Life Month is an opportunity for individuals and organizations to help encourage Americans to register as organ, tissue and eye donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.
You can show your support for donation all month long with these fun and easy ways to get involved.
Every day, donors inspire stories of hope and healing. We’ve collected 108 stories of donation and transplantation to represent the impact just one donor can make though their gift of organ and tissue donation. Read the inspiring journeys of those who have given and received the gift of life.
Throughout the year and in the month of April, hospitals in Nebraska raise the Donate Life Flag in honor of donors and their recipients. If you have a Donate Life flag, we encourage you to display it at your home or wherever is meaningful to you. You can purchase flags from the Donate Life Store or get creative and craft your own. Share a picture of your flag on social media and tag @LiveOnNebraska.
Individuals and organizations have been gearing up for National Donate Life Month by decorating butterflies that represent the gift of life. Beginning April 10, photos of these creations will be posted to our Facebook account. Join us then to be inspired by the stories these butterflies represent and cast a vote for your favorite.
April 14 is National Blue & Green Day. Show your support by wearing blue and green and letting everyone know why you support donation on social media. Then, ioin us the evening of the 14 on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge landing for our first-ever Blue & Green Day Celebration feature games, music, and fireworks!
Join the Rib Shack Smoke House for a National Donate Life Month celebration on Saturday, April 15 from 12-3 p.m. Come down for some mouth-watering BBQ (including the Save a Life Chicken Salad) and register to save lives by signing up as an organ and tissue donor. Anyone who registers as a donor receives their entrée for half price.
Join Live On Nebraska, the Greater Omaha Chamber DEI Division/Code and the Urban League of Nebraska Young Professionals for networking, refreshments, and a discussion on the need for organ and tissue donation. Hear from organ recipients, health professionals, and a donor family member. The event takes place Wednesday, April 19 from 5:30-7:00 p.m at the Greater Omaha Chamber office.
If you haven’t had a chance to order your Nebraska Donate Life license plate, there’s never been a better time to do it. License plates are available from the Nebraska DMV starting at only $5. Visit our Plates Across the State campaign to see plates and read the stories of those impacted by donation throughout Nebraska. Once your plate is in, be sure to share yours too!

You can help by encouraging your family, friends and co-workers to register as a donor at LiveOnNebraska.org/register. Live On Nebraska can even provide a custom URL that you can use to track the number of people who register through your efforts.
