Gift of Life Butterfly Project
April is National Donate Life Month. Show your business/organization’s support for organ, eye and tissue donation by participating in Live On Nebraska’s Gift of Life Butterfly Project. The Butterfly Project is a state-wide community art initiative to show the impact of donation and transplantation and to encourage others to register as donors.
Live On Nebraska will provide participating organizations in Nebraska with a large (3’x3’) cardboard butterfly to decorate in a theme of their choice that represents the gift of life. Organizations will then display their butterflies throughout the month of April. Photos of completed butterflies will also be posted to Live On Nebraska’s Facebook page for community voting.
Participating organizations commit to:
- Picking up their butterfly from Live On Nebraska in Omaha (contact us if you would like to participate but cannot pick up your butterfly to determine if other arrangements can be made)
- Decorating their butterfly and providing photos and a description of the decorated butterfly to Live On Nebraska
- Displaying their butterfly in a public location during the month of April
- Promoting their participation in the Butterfly Project via internal and external communications, and encouraging public voting on Facebook
Additionally, organizations have the opportunity to provide their butterfly to Live On Nebraska for display at our annual Celebration of Heroes luncheon that honors donors and their families on Sunday, May 3.
Prizes
- First prize (determined by Facebook voting): $300 to the organization’s charity of choice
- Runner-up (determined by Facebook voting): $200 to the organization’s charity of choice
- Live On favorite (determined by Live On Nebraska staff vote): $200 to the organization’s charity of choice
Project Timeline
- February 16: Butterflies available for pick up at Live On Nebraska
- April 1: Butterflies are displayed at participating organizations throughout the month of April
- April 8: Butterfly photos due to Live On Nebraska
- April 20-24: Voting on Facebook
- April 27: Announcement of winners
