Merry & Bright: the 2020 Live On Nebraska Holiday Playlist

December 11, 2020

The holidays just wouldn’t be the holidays without music. The sounds of the season take us back to our childhood, help us mark new traditions with our families and, in general, make everything just a little more merry and bright.

This year we asked our staff to share what they’re listening to this holiday season and if the song is special to them, why. From religious classics to modern-day favorites, they produced an eclectic mix of tunes, and some heart-warming memories, sure to enhance your holiday spirit.

Hallelujah Chorus
Performed by: Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Nominated by: Catherine Hartel, Donation Coordinator
“I was living in Colorado, working as a veterinary technician in an emergency clinic. After getting off shift Christmas Eve, I drove by Bethany Lutheran Church, and thought I could sneak in the back (and hide the wrinkled, sweaty scrubs I was still wearing). Yep, I was wrong. The ushers led me to a seat in the second row. I shouldn’t have worried as no one seemed to mind or notice. The night was perfect. Then the church choir began singing the Hallelujah Chorus. I can still shut my eyes and remember that feeling of oneness, serenity….peace. That night was 27 years ago and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.”

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Artists: Nat King Cole & Dean Martin
Nominated by: Nina Leckron, Clinical Quality Specialist
“It reminds me of my grandparents. Every year growing up my siblings and I helped them put up and decorate their Christmas tree, and we’d listen to Christmas music that included a ton of Dean Martin because they loved the crooners. I also really appreciate that the song isn’t religious, for those of us who aren’t Christian but still wish to participate in winter holiday festivities and are maybe secretly celebrating Festivus or Solstice instead.”

Under my Tree

Nominated by: Donna Haney, Communication Services Manager

Little Drummer Boy
