Shelley’s Gift: Lincoln woman’s gift of life helps 96 people

February 13, 2024

Shelley Walters of Lincoln, Nebraska was a mom, a mentor, and a helper. In her 18-year career with Edward Jones she won several awards for her knowledge and work as a branch office administrator. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, collecting jewelry and shopping at estate sales. Her dog King, a boxer, was always by her side.

Shelley impacted 96 lives when she became a donor hero in 2021. Recipients in 25 states have been saved or healed by Shelley’s gift of life.

Shelley’s gifts of organ and tissue donation have restored the health and quality of life for people of all ages. A recipient of one of Shelley’s kidneys is a father of five who was eager to return to cycling and football. Shelley’s liver recipient is thankful for more opportunities to watch his kids’ games and get back on the lake in his boat. Shelley’s donation of bone, tendon and skin has helped patients walk without pain, heal from traumatic fractures and repair sports injuries.

Shelley’s mom Joyce is grateful that the loss of her daughter could be turned into something positive.

“Shelley’s donation is so typical of who she was – always giving – and she would be proud to know she has helped so many people.”

Shelley lives on in the lives of those she saved and healed. Be a part of her legacy by registering as a donor today.
